Abids is the Hyderabad’s main commercial hub. It is rather well known as Hyderabad’s oldest and most famous business area, going as far back as the time of the sixth Nizam of Hyderabad, in the late 19th and early 20th century.

The place got its name from a shop set up in the are by Albert Abid, a Jewish valet of the sixth Nizam. Because of it, the area came to be known as Abid’s shop. Today, that same area has become one of the main shopping areas of Hyderabad, and is known as Abid Road. It is also the headquarters of many commercial biggies such as the BrandFactory, the Jagdish market which is known for mobiles and imported electronic gadgets, and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). The General Post Office (GPO) is also found in this area.

Those who want fine dining after a hard day’s worth of shopping will be pleased to know that restaurants also abound in Abids. Restaurants such as Cafe Capri, Shtam Lodging, and Mischief Dining Bar are famous among the locals and tourists. Hyderabad’s finer hotels are also located in this area, making it one of the better places to go to when in Hyderabad.
