Snow World

The bad thing about living in countries near or right smack on the equatorial line is that you miss out on some things people in the north (and south) get. Case in point: snow. It might not be a big deal to those living in the West, or the Eskimos, but for those who have lived in a tropical or semi-tropical place all their lives, snow is something that is mystical and fun. Maybe it’s the influence of media, but snow for those who have never felt or seen it for themselves is right up there with visiting a foreign country’s token landmark. It is something to be experienced — something to wonder about.

For those living in Hyderabad, that particular wonder is realized with the construction of Snow World. Recognized as India’s first snow-themed park, Snow World was developed and conceptualized by Ocean Park Multi Tech Limited (OPML), the same company that developed Hyderabad’s famous Ocean Park Theme Resort. It also has the distinction of being the world’s biggest snow-themed park, covering a total area of 17,000 square feet. It is located in the Lower Tank Bund Road, right behind Indira Park.

There are a lot of things one can engage in after paying for the entrance fee. The most basic ones — and one that first-timers will surely indulge in right away — is falling on snow, making snow angels, and then having snowball fights. Visitors can also engage in the usual ice skating and ice boarding, as well as go on snow slides and snow cruising using snow bump cars. To top all these, Snow World also has a Cryo Zone that features a natural snowscape, complete with igloos, alpine trees and simulated polar bears and penguins. All the snows that are produced are almost like the real thing; the artificial snows are created using state-of-the-art technology supplied by the Woomea Snow Guns Ltd., which has its base all the way in Australia. The snow is produced using pure mineral water.

Snow World’s popularity cannot be argued; every day, there are around 2400 visitors that go all out on its snow-related entertainment activities. The best time to visit Snow World is, of course, during the summer season in Hyderabad, when temperatures can go as high as 40 degrees Celsius. Here, people can enjoy the magic of winter during summer.
